The time has come!

August 25, 2024

From the desks of Stanley Katz & Lauren Madera

THE CLIENTFIRST WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS & COMMENTARY WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED NEXT SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st, IN CELEBRATION OF THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAY. WE HOPE YOU’VE HAD A GREAT SUMMER!

Friday, August 23rd was the day the stock and bond markets had been anticipating for over one year. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell announced “the time has come” to begin lowering the Fed Funds interest rate! The US stock market reacted favorably with all three major indices in the green for the week (i.e., DJIA: +1.26, S&P 500: +1.45%, Nasdaq +1.40%). With the S&P 500 closing in on another record high, the current price-to-earnings ratio sits at a lofty 22.76X projected earnings as we approach September, a historically volatile month in the markets. On the heels of 2Q2024’s recent earnings announcements, look at Capital Group’s research piece below.

Along with stock market volatility, the fall season often produces treacherous weather conditions in the form of hurricanes. Throughout 2024, it seems as though we’ve had more than our fair share of difficult weather. We thought you might find Zacks’ property and casualty insurance industry report of interest. Click the link below.

For those of you that have a long history of following the US stock market, Schwab’s Liz Ann Sonders’ writing will take you down memory lane.

Below are links to a number of third-party research reports that we have read and analyzed over the past week. We hope you will find the information interesting, useful, and worthwhile.

Zacks:

  • Industry Outlook: Insurance – Property and Casualty

Schwab:

  • Songs of Experience: Reminiscences of a Strategist
