Like Paul Revere’s famous warning, “The British are coming!,” many economists have been proclaiming, “The interest rate cuts are coming!” The US stock market certainly thinks so as both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices hit fresh highs again last week (i.e., DJIA: -0.54%, S&P 500: +1.58%, Nasdaq: +3.24%). The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee met last Tuesday and Wednesday. Chairman Powell later announced no change to the Fed Funds rate, although the economy appears to be slowing ever so slightly.
