The interest rate cuts are coming! Or are they?

June 16, 2024

From the desks of Stanley Katz & Lauren Madera

STAY SAFE & HAVE FUN!

Like Paul Revere’s famous warning, “The British are coming!,” many economists have been proclaiming, “The interest rate cuts are coming!” The US stock market certainly thinks so as both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices hit fresh highs again last week (i.e., DJIA: -0.54%, S&P 500: +1.58%, Nasdaq: +3.24%). The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee met last Tuesday and Wednesday. Chairman Powell later announced no change to the Fed Funds rate, although the economy appears to be slowing ever so slightly. Will the Fed cut rates? If so, when? Lord Abbett offers their “Five Key Takeaways from the June FOMC Meeting” below.

With mid-year just two weeks away, Schwab provides their Market Perspective. We hope you find their insights on global economies, stock markets, and interest rates a worthwhile read.

Below are links to a number of third-party research reports that we have read and analyzed over the past week. We hope you will find the information interesting, useful, and worthwhile.
