HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Sounds like an Arby’s special! All three of the major US stock market indices posted gains for the third week in a row (i.e., DJIA: +2.16%, S&P 500: +1.85%, Nasdaq: +1.14%). The DJIA resides 0.7% from an all-time high of 40,000, having risen eight straight days. However, everything isn’t as rosy as the market would have us believe. Although 1Q2024 earnings per share (aka EPS) have beaten EXPECTATIONS, on a quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year basis, EPS has decreased. That means that the market’s price-to-earnings ratio is higher, which could be cause for concern. Lord Abbett’s “US Economy: Three Important Themes for Investors” offers some interesting insights.
