Two of the three major US stock market indices were down for the week (i.e., DJIA: +0.01%, S&P 500: -3.05%, Nasdaq: -5.52%), although the DJIA was only up a smidge. These indices have been down the past three weeks, for the most part, with the S&P 500 falling below its 50-day moving average. Year-to-date, the averages are up a modest +0.79%, +4.14%, and +1.80%, respectively. Yet it seems like just yesterday the indices were on a hot streak. Statistically, the economy continues to run on all cylinders keeping inflation relatively high and the Federal Reserve’s job difficult. Argus’ commentary, “Strong First Quarter but Market Technicals send Red Flags,” offers tremendous insights.
