For the second week in a row, all three major US stock market indices were down (i.e., DJIA: -2.37%, S&P 500: -1.56%, Nasdaq: -0.45%). Wednesday’s Consumer Price Index report came in much hotter than anticipated and, seemingly, caused the market to drop precipitously. Just like last week’s data, this may reaffirm maintaining–rather than lowering–the Fed Funds interest rate for the time being. Two possible explanations for the US stock markets’ reaction may be found in the epistles penned by Schwab’s Liz Ann Sonders and, separately, Lord Abbett.
For a much broader perspective on the economy and markets, we can always count on Dr. David Kelly’s Quarterly Guide to the Market as presented for 2Q 2024. As opposed to the full report, J.P. Morgan Asset Management provides a much shorter (but still valuable) Notes version of the call. Click the link below.
Below are links to a number of third-party research reports that we have read and analyzed over the past week. We hope you will find the information interesting, useful, and worthwhile.
