The highs keep coming for the major US stock market indices as all three notched additional gains last week (i.e., DJIA: +0.65%, S&P 500: +1.06%, Nasdaq: +0.94%). We saw both the DJIA and S&P 500 hit record levels. The S&P 500 currently sits 22% above its 50-day moving average. This may be worrisome because the index is trading a little ahead of itself from a valuation standpoint.
As stated in previous Weekly H&Cs, the stock markets anticipate that the Fed may soon lower the Fed Funds interest rate. We’ll see what comes out of the Federal Reserve’s two-day meeting this week culminating in Chairman Powell’s press conference on Wednesday. Quarterly earnings announcements represent another potential market catalyst this week. Five of the Magnificent 7 tech stocks—AAPL, AMZN, MSFT, GOOGL, and META—will report.
