For the second week in a row, the three major US stock market indices posted gains (i.e., DJIA: +0.65%, S&P 500: +1.31%, Nasdaq: +2.57%). However, in the words of our esteemed business manager, “two data points don’t make a trend!” Especially, if one considers that recently announced quarter-over-quarter earnings grew for the first time since 3Q2022. During that time span, the economy has experienced higher inflation and companies have been able raise prices for goods and services. As a result, consumption seems to be slowing and corporations are not raising guidance on 2024 earnings. Schwab’s Market Perspective “Upside-Down” offers some interesting thoughts on this topic.
Goldman Sachs’ report, “The Hard Part Is Over,” paints a slightly different picture but on the global stage. You do not have to read all 28 pages! The first 10 capture the gist. We hope you find it interesting and worthwhile.
