After the negative results from 2022, should we just stop the clock right now for 2023? All three major US stock market indices produced positive returns (i.e., DJIA: +2.00%, S&P 500: +2.67%, Nasdaq: +4.82%) for the second week in a row, taking the year-to-date figures to +3.49%, +4.16% and +5.85%, respectively. Gosh, that feels good…for the moment. 4Q2022 earnings announcements began Friday. Thus far, they have come in as expected for the most part. With the economy slowing, earnings will reflect a slight reduction both on a quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year basis. On this topic, look at the J.P. PIMCO takes a deeper dive into where the economy may be heading in 2023. You have most certainly heard the resounding drum beats of a recession. Will it be a mild or a harsh one?
