STAY SAFE & HEALTHY!
Should we get giddy yet? With this week’s US stock market performance (i.e., DJIA: +4.89%, S&P 500: +4.75%, Nasdaq: +5.22%), the DJIA has a three-week winning streak and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq have posted two straight. If one were to look over the past month though, the US indices have experienced a lot of volatility yet remained flat! As for year-to-date returns, we still find ourselves in correction or bear market territory, depending on the index (i.e., DJIA: -14.46%, S&P 500: -21.26%, Nasdaq: -30.59%). That’s the bad news. The good news is the price-to-earnings ratio on the S&P 500 started 2022 at 21X and now sits closer to a historical norm of 16X.
