SHANAH TOVAH TO THOSE WHO ARE CELEBRATING!
We have we seen this movie before. For the past 4 out of 5 weeks, the major US stock market indices were down again (i.e., DJIA: -5.99%, S&P 500: -4.64%, Nasdaq: -5.07%). The S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed above their June 2022 lows, but the DJIA made a new one: -18.57% year-to-date! Besides the weekly moves downward, more unnerving is the intraday market volatility. This past Friday, for example, the DJIA was off more than 500 points and ended the day down about 180 points. The Federal Reserve’s efforts to slow inflation and economic growth by raising interest rates seems to be working as forecasters update their predictions on earnings. No doubt, more volatility will be coming when companies report quarterly earnings and the government September-ending statistics hit the news wires. So many different things impact the markets. We read about them constantly, and it is hard to keep them in focus. Take a look at the BlackRock “Student of the Market” piece. It does a great job of synthesizing an amalgamation of market information all in once place. We hope you find it interesting.
Below are links to a number of third-party research reports that we have read and analyzed over the past week. We hope you will find the information interesting, useful, and worthwhile.
