US Stock Market May Test Your Mettle

April 10, 2022

From the desks of Stanley Katz & Lauren Madera

IN CELEBRATION OF THE EASTER & PASSOVER HOLIDAYS, WE WILL NOT BE PUBLISHING THE WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS & COMMENTARY NEXT WEEKEND. STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY!

You know how children sometimes test your patience? That’s what we’re running into with the US stock market these days! This past week generated losses in all three major US stock market indices (i.e., DJIA: -0.27%, S&P 500: -1.26%, Nasdaq: -3.86%). With interest rates front and center and almost certainly heading upwards, the US stock market seems to be entering a volatile period that may test your mettle. Price-to-earnings ratios continue to compress with the S&P 500 currently trading at 19.4X and the Nasdaq still at a lofty 27.5X. So, as we said in our 03-27-2022 Weekly H&C, this market could remain range bound as corporate earnings growth slows. It may take some time to digest, but the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Economic and Market Update does a great job of synthesizing where we stand today. Click the link below.

On a shorter note, the Goldman Sachs Market Pulse provides some interesting insights.  We found their comment on inflation and supply chain issues to be of particular interest.

Below are links to a number of third-party research reports that we have read and analyzed over the past week.  We hope you will find the information interesting, useful, and worthwhile.
